@Halloween Meal 2021, Main Braised Duck on Fried Rice Patties, from the Chinese ZHONGYUAN festival.
A dish made up of foods apparently traditionally both left out for the Passing Dead, and also eaten by regular people at this time. In theory, the rice cakes should be covered in a pink glutinous rice covering, stamped with words and symbols that are relevant to the ghosts going past. At least I think. The details for food at these festivals can be hard to find for Westerners, as presumably, it is as culturally known and rarely explicitly stated, in the same way toffee and fake honeycomb are considered bonfire night things.
Served on small plates, as seen.
Damages:
Killed one pot because I didn't keep an eye on the braised duck liquid level and it scorched and hardened. The pot was revied the following day with a little lite elbow grease. In addition, I used: One pot to make the rice in, in advance. One frying pan to stir the fry in. A few bowls to put prepared ingredients in. And one oven dish to keep duck hot after cooking.
Result:
Came out well, even if wasn't close to traditional form. The duck had dried a bit in the oven, so would need to cover that, or know the timings properly in future. But the rice was good, if not in patties, It just really need something to top it off.
