AUTUMN NUT SALAD

@Halloween Meal 2021, Salad A variety of autumnal nuts served on a lettuce leaf, based on the All Hallows Tide festival.

Nuts to the lettuce leaf, in a martini glass.

Contains Nuts: Peanuts, Hazelnuts, Walnuts, Pine nuts, Pumpkin seeds and Poppy seeds. It should also have had chestnuts in, but this is because of a supply issue. The lettuce is Chinese Leaf, a nod to the Chinse Hungry Ghost Festival.

Now, I know not all these nuts & seeds are native to the UK (Peanut and Pumpkin might come to your mind), but yes, edible pine nuts are native to the UK and used to be collected in the autumn. There are not quite the same as commercially produced ones, but they still count.

Note this was the only recipe with a 'flourish, a finishing touch to the plate, in the squirt of mayonnaise on the side. It is still pretty bland. I need to think about that next time.

Served in Martini Glasses.

Damages:

Literally almost nothing. The lettuce needed washing and drying, and I bought WAY too many nuts for a simple serving each. But the nuts were just mixed in a small bowl then doled out. I did make things harder for myself by buying monkey nuts ( UNSHELLED peanuts) to make things cheaper, but then realised I had to spend time shelling them.

Result:

The idea was to eat the bowl of the lettuce leaf and the nestled nuts in one bite. I had put in too many nuts for that. And apparently put in too many for a valid serving. Probably needed more vegetables too, like shredded turnip and beetroot to lessen the pure nuttiness present.
